Is Boulder Colorado a major city?

Boulder is an awesome town. Lots of things to do, shopping, great restaurants, beautiful scenery. It has all the culture and economy of a big city but feels very small-town-esque. Coming from PA you might think it’s a total podunk town, but give us a chance! Also, mileage-wise it seems far from Denver, (a VERY big city) but because of urban sprawl and a new toll road, it is very well connected and almost one huge metropolis from Castle Rock (south) to Boulder (north)
I think you will like it- lots of outdoor activities, close to skiing, housing is decent enough as far as affordability. Email me if you would like some advice, if you decide to move out here!

It’s probably not considered a major city. I found sports franchises are usually located in major cities, because their management will calculate how many fans will show up and how much ticket/TV money they can collect. So my definition of major city is, if there is at least 2 professional sports teams (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL), then it is a major city. Boulder is not.

Boulder’s a great town. The western part of the town is in the foothills. There are not so many lakes and rivers in Boulder, but plenty of outdoor activities in and around the area. The winters are generally mild with some significant snow storms several times a year (the snow melts away within a couple days, sometimes within same day–it’s amazing). In the summer, the days can be hot, but it’s a dry heat and very bearable in my opinion. Boulder is about 100,000 in pop. with Denver a mere 20 min away without traffic–it’s significantly longer with rush hour traffic. Boulder can be peaceful. It’s definitely worth a visit if nothing else, then you might decide for yourself. I hope this helps.
