Yes. Amtrak makes 12 stops in Montana.

You’d start by taking Amtrak’s Lake Shore Limited from New York City to Chicago. In Chicago, you’d change trains and take Amtrak’s Empire Builder to Montana. The trip will take several days, but should be enjoyable.

To learn more, here’s a link to Amtrak’s website:

Depending upon where you are in New Jersey, you would likely use NJT to get into New York City.

The main Amtrak stations in NJ (also used by NJ Transit) are Newark Penn Station and Metro Park Station served by the Northeast Corridor Line. You need to go to one of those stations to grab an amtrak train to Montana.

depends where in montana you are going. be more specific with city pairs, then we can help better.

yes, amtrak serves both nj and mt, and best route would be nyc-chi-xxx, using the lake shore limited and the empire builder.

this would be assuming that your destination is at or near the top of the state, as the amtrak line operates east-west, parallel to us route 2 and the canadian boarder, and serves glacier park as well.

if you are going to southern montana, like the cities (missoula, butte, or others along i-90), then amtrak doesnt serve that. best bet then is nyc-chi-fargo nd, transfer to greyhound bus fargo to montana on i-90.
